Taya’s Birthday

The key to photographing active toddlers is to embrace the movement—candid shots of them exploring, laughing, and playing often turn out to be the most memorable. I love using a mix of action shots and portrait-style images to tell the full story of their playful personalities. If you’re considering a first birthday shoot for your little one, here are some ideas to make it extra special:

  • Bring fun props like bubbles, balloons, or even a favorite stuffed toy.
  • Choose an outdoor location with natural light and space for movement.
  • Dress comfortably in cute, yet practical, outfits to allow easy movement.
  • Let them be themselves – natural, candid shots often turn out the best!

Capturing a child’s first birthday is always a special experience, and this recent session in Gauteng was no exception! As the photographer at Jenna Claire Photography, I love creating magical memories for families, and this one-year-old’s birthday shoot was pure joy from start to finish. With bubbles floating in the air, colorful balloons swaying in the breeze, and an energetic little girl on the move, it was a perfect combination of fun and excitement.

Balloons bring a festive and playful element to a first birthday photoshoot. For this session, we used a mix of pastel and vibrant balloons that perfectly complemented the outdoor setting. The little birthday girl loved grabbing the strings and watching them bounce in the air. These props not only added visual interest to the photos but also gave her something fun to interact with, making for some beautiful and dynamic portraits. Whether you choose a balloon garland, helium balloons, or giant number-shaped ones, they make a great addition to any toddler shoot.

One-year-olds are known for their boundless energy, and this little girl was no exception! She was quick on her feet, dashing around with a huge smile, making it a fun challenge to capture those perfect “go home, happy” shots.
